Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act

Howell Valley R-1 Remediation Plan

When taking water samples, the state of Missouri requires public schools to take two (2), a first draw and a flush draw. If lead samples are above 5 ppb in the first draw, it indicates lead in the fixture. If lead above the 5 ppb is found in the flush draw, it indicates lead in the water lines or water source.

"First draw", a two hundred fifty-milliliter sample immediately collected from a drinking water outlet that has been turned on after a stagnation period of at least eight hours.

Flush draw”, a two hundred fifty milliliter sample collected from a drinking water outlet after the water has run for at least 30 seconds.

With lead levels in the kitchen sink being above the required maximum (5 ppb) on the first draw only, it indicates lead in the fixture. On 27-March-2023, the custodial/maintenance staff replaced the kitchen fixture with one meeting NSF/ANSI 61 requirements.
